  4. Welcome to WinTaper version 1.5 beta 3, the first
  5. public test release of WinTaper 1.5! Many new and
  6. exciting features have been added to make WinTaper
  7. even easier to use and more powerful than ever.
  8. Users of v.1.0x will also see that this new
  9. WinTaper is considerably faster than before.

  11. In order to be safe, you should backup any existing
  12. WinTaper directory before installing the new beta
  13. release. If you are upgrading from an existing
  14. 16-bit version (1.0x) to the new 32-bit version,
  15. note that the default installation directory is
  16. different from your existing 16-bit version. If you
  17. had installed a previous 32-bit beta version of
  18. WinTaper it is recommended that you uninstall it
  19. properly before you install this new version.

  21. WinTaper is the complete tape collectors software,
  22. with both database and publishing capabilities. With
  23. just a few clicks you can print tape labels, print
  24. tapelists, even export your list to HTML documents
  25. to be viewed on the WorldwideWeb. Speedy and
  26. intuitive, most users find they can be productive
  27. with WinTaper on their very first session simply by
  28. examining the supplied sample files. And when it's
  29. time to create your own files, WinTaper can even add
  30. them to your program groups automatically. Fly-over
  31. balloon help and status bar hint messages keep you
  32. constantly informed about what's happening now, and
  33. usually what to do next. If you do get stuck, help
  34. is just an F1 key away!
  35. NOTE: The help file included with beta3 is not quite
  36. up to date - the newer features are not covered.
  37. Also, there is no help for the form editor right now.
  38. I am working on both of these right now. I am very
  39. sorry for any inconvenience this creates. I think
  40. you will find that most of editor's features are
  41. fairly obvious with a little experimentation.

  43. There are many new fetaures in WinTaper 1.5, most
  44. important of which is the all-new Label Editor (which
  45. I also tend to refer to as the form editor). The
  46. label editor allows you to graphically design a
  47. custom label layout and have WinTaper fill in the
  48. data for you. If you have used any other drawing
  49. packages, you probably already have a fair amount of
  50. the knowledge you need to make beautiful full-color
  51. custom tape labels. The new label editor is now even
  52. easier to use, with its tools in toolbars which can
  53. be docked or floated by simply right-clicking on the
  54. toolbar itself and choosing from a menu. In fact,
  55. right-clicking is used extensively throughout to
  56. bring up local object menus. Placing graphics on a
  57. tape label is now a simple cut and paste operation.
  58. The form editor supports graphics up to 24-bit color,
  59. allowing photo-quality images to be used. The editor
  60. can also read bitmap .bmp files directly from disk.
