===================================================
Welcome to WinTaper version 1.5 beta 3, the first
public test release of WinTaper 1.5! Many new and
exciting features have been added to make WinTaper
even easier to use and more powerful than ever.
Users of v.1.0x will also see that this new
WinTaper is considerably faster than before.
===================================================
In order to be safe, you should backup any existing
WinTaper directory before installing the new beta
release. If you are upgrading from an existing
16-bit version (1.0x) to the new 32-bit version,
note that the default installation directory is
different from your existing 16-bit version. If you
had installed a previous 32-bit beta version of
WinTaper it is recommended that you uninstall it
properly before you install this new version.
===================================================
WinTaper is the complete tape collectors software,
with both database and publishing capabilities. With
just a few clicks you can print tape labels, print
tapelists, even export your list to HTML documents
to be viewed on the WorldwideWeb. Speedy and
intuitive, most users find they can be productive
with WinTaper on their very first session simply by
examining the supplied sample files. And when it's
time to create your own files, WinTaper can even add
them to your program groups automatically. Fly-over
balloon help and status bar hint messages keep you
constantly informed about what's happening now, and
usually what to do next. If you do get stuck, help
is just an F1 key away!
NOTE: The help file included with beta3 is not quite
up to date - the newer features are not covered.
Also, there is no help for the form editor right now.
I am working on both of these right now. I am very
sorry for any inconvenience this creates. I think
you will find that most of editor's features are
fairly obvious with a little experimentation.
===================================================
There are many new fetaures in WinTaper 1.5, most
important of which is the all-new Label Editor (which
I also tend to refer to as the form editor). The
label editor allows you to graphically design a
custom label layout and have WinTaper fill in the
data for you. If you have used any other drawing
packages, you probably already have a fair amount of
the knowledge you need to make beautiful full-color
custom tape labels. The new label editor is now even
easier to use, with its tools in toolbars which can
be docked or floated by simply right-clicking on the
toolbar itself and choosing from a menu. In fact,
right-clicking is used extensively throughout to
bring up local object menus. Placing graphics on a
tape label is now a simple cut and paste operation.
The form editor supports graphics up to 24-bit color,
allowing photo-quality images to be used. The editor
can also read bitmap .bmp files directly from disk.
===================================================
Thanks for choosing WinTaper, happy tape collecting!
